Fox News Affiliate Tells Viewers Dead Maya Angelou Is Canceling Scheduled Appearance

A local Fox News affiliate has egg on its face for the way it covered Maya Angelou’s death. The station’s offense was insensitively reporting something that is common sense to anyone with a working brain.

It is a given that, since the renowned poet and author passed away yesterday, any of her scheduled appearances will be canceled. There is no need to share that bit of information with viewers… unless of course you’re local Texas affiliate Fox 26.

Take a look at the following report:

canceled Angelou

Angelou passed away at her home in North Carolina at the age of 86.

Angelou, who was friends with civil rights leaders, had been a performer, professor, and activist in her own right. Still, she is best known for her classic “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”

“If growing up is painful for the Southern Black girl, being aware of her displacement is the rust on the razor that threatens the throat,” Ms. Angelou wrote in her classic.

Unlike some elders, Angelou also had a way of getting through to the younger generation, even bringing late rapper Tupac Shakur to tears during one interaction.

Here is a bit of a conversation Maya Angelou had with Dave Chappelle some years ago:

Teen Once Told She Was Too Heavy for Tennis Pulls Off Stunning Upset at French Open

Teen Once Told She Was Too Heavy for Tennis Pulls Off Stunning Upset at French Open

If you want something, go get it.

That seems to be the lesson for anyone watching 18 year old Taylor Townsend upset 20th seed Alize Cornet during the third round of the French Open today.

Even if you haven’t heard of Townsend, it’s not because she hasn’t been making her mark on the tennis world. Although this is her first grand slam, she won the 2012 Australian Open junior tournament.

Townsend is the youngest player to advance to the third round in five years, and as USA Today noted, it’s not just the fact that she won her match, but how she won:

An 18-year-old playing in her first Grand Slam and upsetting the No. 20 seed is special enough, but Townsend earned the win  after losing a big lead in each of the final two sets to a Frenchwoman playing in front of a raucous hometown crowd. Townsend was up a set and two breaks in the second and couldn’t close against Cornet. She got off to another fast start in the decisive set and had four match points at 5-1, before lost 12 of the next 13 points. No matter. Townsend calmly served it out to win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Even though she’s always been a performer on the court, Townsend was once benched by the United States Tennis Association because of her weight.

Discussing the situation, Patrick McEnroe, the general manager of the United States Tennis Association development program explained that “[the organization’s] concern is her long-term health, number one, and her long-term development as a player.

Given Townsend’s bright smile and honesty, America won’t have any problem falling in love with its newest tennis star.

“I got really nervous and I was just trying to focus on doing the right things, but this is such a new moment for me. I was trying and it just wasn’t happening.” said Townsend after the match.

Heisman Trophy Winner Herschel Walker Endorses Georgia Republican for U.S. Senate

Heisman Trophy Winner Herschel Walker Endorses Georgia Republican for U.S. Senate

Herschel Walker.jpg

Georgia’s U.S. Senate election is one of the most watched in the country, namely because this is one of the few opportunities in recent memory for the solidly red state to send a Democrat to U.S. Senate.

Although Michelle Nunn easily won the Democratic primary, the Republican primary was a much tighter race. A run off is scheduled between Congressman Jack Kingston and businessman David Perdue. Prior to the election, however, Kingston got a little help from Heisman trophy winner Herschel Walker, who was featured in an ad praising Kingston.

“That’s why I want my friend, Jack Kingston, carrying the ball for us in Washington,” said Walker, adding, “He’s one of us.”

Currently Kingston is leading Perdue by 12 points, according to a PPP poll. Kingston is tied with Nunn at 45 percent whereas Perdue trails Nunn by two points.

It would seem that populist conservatives are leaning toward Kingston.

“After all these years of knowing and liking Jack Kingston, I’ll have the pleasure of voting for him,” conservative pundit Eric Erickson gushed.

Kingston also recently received an endorsement from third place finisher Karen Handel.

“We need our new U.S. senator to be a person who is extremely knowledgeable about the complicated issues Congress faces every day,” Handel said in a statement. “We need a consistent conservative who brings the experience to be an effective member of the Senate from Day One.”

Argument Over Clothes Leads to Teen Fatally Shooting Brother, Then Himself

Argument Over Clothes Leads to Teen Fatally Shooting Brother, Then Himself

teen brothers.jpg

Teenage siblings routinely argue over clothes, but rarely do those arguments lead to a murder suicide. Friends and relatives of two Miami teens, however, say when one brother tried to wear the other brother’s clothes, the result was fatal.

Steven Odeus, 14, fatally shot his brother Stanley Blanc, 16, then committed suicide. The community came together on Monday to mourn the brothers who passed away late Sunday evening.

“It started off as a small petty argument over clothes that escalated into a fight,”  Marc Blanc, the victims’ 18 year old brother told CBS Miami.

“Stanley wanted to wear Steven’s clothes, Steven didn’t want him to,” said friend Kedner Louis.

The brawl erupted at the home of the teen brothers in the New Haven Gardens public housing community. Family members were able to pull them apart initially, but tensions flared up again once the teens were outside.

“Right before my eyes my brother just shot my other brother,” says Blanc, who lost both his brothers in the shooting. “I heard my second brother die because he shot himself.”

Witnesses are struggling to understand why Odeus shot his brother then ran to a parking lot and took his own life. All they could do was gather and pray at the vigil held on Monday.

“In my mind, I think he didn’t really mean to” said Blanc. “That’s blood, nobody wants to kill their own brother. At the same time I got mixed feelings about a lot of stuff right now.”

Blanc also has a message for others.

“I’ve been crying a lot,” said Blanc. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I want people to know, love your kids, love one another, don’t sweat the small stuff.”

California Mass Killer Enraged at “Ugly Black Filth” Who Dated White Girls

California Mass Killer Enraged at “Ugly Black Filth” Who Dated White Girls

Elliot Rodger

Before mass shooter Elliot Rodger, 22, went on a killing spree, gunning down six people and wounding eight in a southern California college town, he detailed his reasoning in a 137 page manifesto.

Judging from the manifesto left by the Santa Barbara shooter, he was a socially awkward,  mentally disturbed young man. He was also a racist who couldn’t understand why women didn’t like him. In his rant, he lamented over the fact that even an “ugly black boy” could get a date with a white girl but he couldn’t. In Rodger’s mind, he was superior because he was mostly white, and should’ve gotten girls solely based on his white privilege.

How could an inferior, ugly black boy be able to get a white girl and not me? I am beautiful, and I am half white myself. I am descended from British aristocracy. He is descended from slaves. I deserve it more. I tried not to believe his foul words, but they were already said, and it was hard to erase from my mind. If this is actually true, if this ugly black filth was able to have sex with a blonde white girl at the age of thirteen while I’ve had to suffer virginity all my life, then this just proves how ridiculous the female gender is. They would give themselves to this filthy scum, but they reject ME? The injustice!

You can read the entire manifest here:
