DNC Caught Making Fun of Black Woman’s Name in Wikileaks Emails

The speakers at the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia made touting diversity a priority.

“Our party knows that diversity is not our problem. It is our promise,” Cummings said during a speech on Monday. “We as Democrats, we value every life: black, white, Asian. Every life.”

The Wikileaks email release, however, has cast a shadow over the convention and its commitment to diversity. While Democrats may prioritize diversity in speeches, an email caught insiders making fun of a black woman’s name.

An email exchange between Scott Comer, the finance chief of staff and LGBT finance director for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and Zachary Allen, an employee with the firm TIPAH Consulting, makes fun of LaQueenia Gibson’s name. Gibson is an executive assistant for the company Haddad Brands.

LaQueenia is already my favorite. And I did. Praise the Lord.

LaQueenia is a NAME!

I’m sorry, boo. I hope you got a raise with this title.

Could you imagine the reaction to this email if it came from the RNC?

This is not the first time that the DNC has been accused of discrimination against African-Americans. In 2014, The Daily Beast [1]published a report which found that only 1.7 percent of DNC consultants were black:

PowerPAC+, a political action committee funded by major Democratic donor Steve Phillips, found that of the $514 million paid to consulting firms over this time period, only $8.7 million went to firms that were either minority-owned or had a minority principal.

This means that only 1.7 percent of the spending by the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee went to minority business enterprises (MBEs). Some 45 percent of Democratic support in 2012 came from racial minorities.

It seems that Democrats are fine with peddling diversity in public, but behind closed doors it’s not much of a priority.
