Alabama Recreation director Ricky Mularz is being accusing by parents of racial discrimination and profiling.

According to WFSA, the parents filed a complaint alleging that Mularz “referred to kids attending summer camp as zoo animals” while the pastor who started the program was present.

“All I could do is say wow, ya know, because just to see that, it’s still prevalent and if a child can tell you it was wrong and it bothered a child, we’ve got a problem. We can’t just look over that,” said Pastor Timothy Williams.

A woman who says her daughter heard the comment claims this wasn’t the first time Mularz had called them monkeys.

“She was saying he’s been doing it and l was like well why hasn’t anything been done about it? He can’t just go around calling people out of their names,” said Kanahesia Tyson.

Williams says the complaint against the city helps ensure that this kind of behavior doesn’t continue.

“Let’s stop covering things, let’s stop pushing things to the side and say it’ll work itself out,” said Williams.
