A Boston University professor who hasn’t even started her job may lose it after a series of tweets became public.
According to the Boston Herald, Boston University’s spokesman is “offended” at tweets sent by an incoming African-American studies professor.
Even though Saida Grundy doesn’t start her job until July, some are already calling for her head over tweets that call on white people to own up to their responsibility in racism and sexism.
“White masculinity isn’t a problem for america’s colleges, white masculinity is THE problem for america’s colleges,” Grundy tweeted.
Professor who said,“Deal with your white sh*t, white people. slavery is a *YALL* thing” Faces Firing.
In January she wrote,“Every MLK week I commit myself to not spending a dime in white-owned businesses. and every year i find it nearly impossible.”
And prior to that: “Deal with your white sh*t, white people. slavery is a *YALL* thing.”
“While we recognize that Dr. Grundy has the right to hold and express personal opinions, BU does not condone racism or bigotry in any form, and we are offended by such statements,” BU spokesman Colin Riley said in a statement.
Grundy’s view that white people should deal with their “sh*t” and that slavery is a “y’all thing” is viewed by pundit and legal scholar Jonathan Turley as “bizarre and biased”, according to his blog.
With a note of false equivalency, Turley concludes that he sides with free speech, but the next racist white professor must be given latitude if BU keeps Grundy.
