During a broadcast last night CNN’s Don Lemon proved to the world why the Columbia Journalism Review was right to add him to its list of worst journalists at the close of last year.
As usual after a terrorist attack that was presumably committed Muslims, other Muslims are forced to come out and defend their faith. Human rights attorney Arsalan Iftikhar told Don Lemon this morning that the Charlie Hebdo attacks yesterday were not a part of Islam, or any religion for that matter.
Lemon then pointed to a poll which indicates that 16 percent of French citizens say they support the terror group ISIS.
“They obviously have sympathies for that ideology,” Iftikhar replied. “I don’t think that would mean they would justify the killing of innocent civilians or murdering people on the streets.”
Lemon then asked, “I just want to get more specific…..Do you support ISIS?”
“Wait, did you just ask me if I supported ISIS?” Iftikhar answered. “I just answered your question. I said that obviously these 16% of people support the ideology, but I don’t think that would necessarily extrapolate to supporting of killing of innocent people. You can have sympathy for an ideology and not support the mass murdering of people.”
Although Muslims are on the defensive, no one was asked to answer for the white racist who killed over 70 people in a Norway terrorist attack, a point made in a recent TruthOut article:
In one really telling quote form earlier today, former deputy director of the CIA Michael Morell called the storming of the Charlie Hebdo headquarters “the worst terrorist attack in Europe since the attacks in London in July of 2005.”
Mike Morell apparently can’t remember the actual worst terrorist attack in Europe between the 2005 London bombings and today’s Paris shootings.
I’m talking, of course, about the 2011 Norway attacks, where a white right-wing extremist and racist named Anders Breivik killed 77 people during a rampage through Oslo and a nearby summer camp.
If Breivik’s name were “Omar” and he said that he acted in the name of Islam as opposed to “Europe” and Christianity, I doubt people like Michael Morell would forget who he is or what he did.
