Once again, politicians have Americans caught up in some nonsensical left v. right farce, this time with the government shutdown. Political operatives are manning their positions in this Battle Royale of small ideas, as is customary, but today one Obama staffer made a gaffe that won’t soon be forgotten.
In the new era of 24/7 media, social media is key, so by now we’re all accustomed to hired hands, such as senior White House adviser David Pfeiffer, tweeting on behalf of the White House. But this tweet was a bit of a shocker:
Of course Pfeiffer intended to tweet “bigger”, but in a world of politics comprised of sh*ts and giggles, this gaffe made the right wing front page all morning.
This from the far right wing Daily Caller:
I think we all know what happened here: Dan Pfeiffer is a huge racist, and for a brief moment he let the
maskpointy white hood slip.
Just kidding, of course. It’s not like he’s a Republican! Therefore, we must give him the benefit of the doubt that he meant to type “bigger.” He was just lying about his political opponents, not being a racist.
Another tweeter called it the “most unfortunate gaffe ever.” It was unfortunate, but there are more pressing facts that mainstream media would do well to focus on:
- Over 146 million Americans are designated as poor or low income, according to the Census.
- Half of all Americans earn less than $505 dollars per week.
- Median income in America has fallen over the past four years.
- Most of the jobs created during the economic “recovery” have been low wage jobs.
We can’t focus on any of these issues because mainstream media, which includes right wing media, is too busy playing silly games.
