One year old Antiq Hennis, who was shot last week while riding in his stroller, was laid to rest on Friday. Also happening on Friday were the arrests of two suspects in connection with the k!lling of the one year old. According to the New York Post, one of the suspects even boasted about the shooting, thinking he he’d shot the father: “I just shot that motherf***er.” He was then told, ‘No, you idiot, you shot the kid.”
The two men taken into custody by police were Daquan Breland, 23, who is believed to be shooter, and 19-year-old Daquan Wright, who allegedly handed the gun to Breland. Once Breland learned that he’d hit a child, he reportedly became very remorseful.
“He started to cry. He was very upset and worried,” the source said. Breland was believed to be aiming for Antiq’s father, Anthony Hennis, who is an alleged gang member with an extensive criminal history, which includes drug distribution. Hennis did not cooperate with police in order to assist in the search for his son’s k!ller, according to reports.
“We know exactly who the shooter is,” said community activist Tony Herbert last week. “It was a beef between the shooter’s brother and the baby’s father.”
“He has not answered questions,” New York Police Chief Kelly said of the father during the investigation. “We’re still trying to, obviously, determine his contacts — and he has an extensive arrest record, so we are looking into his relationships.”
Hennis had gone to Brooklyn to pick up his 16 month old son from the child’s mother when the shooting occurred. According to DNAinfo, the shooting may have been in retaliation for a 2012 drive-by that wounded Wright’s brother.
