In a series of emails published by ThinkProgress, Florida Police Chief Steve Bracknell admits that he feels George Zimmerman is actually a danger to the community. According to email, Bracknell agrees that Zimmerman is a “ticking time bomb” and another “Sandy Hook” or “Aurora” “waiting to happen.” Bracknell is responsible for the Lake Mary area, which is where George Zimmerman was once stopped for speeding and where he had an altercation with his estranged wife and father-in-law.
The email by Bracknell was reportedly sent to concerned citizen Santiago Rodriguez and have been confirmed as authentic by Bracknell. Rodriguez took issue with the police department’s handling of the domestic incident between George Zimmerman, his wife, and father-in-law. Rodriguez said Bracknell should have charged Zimmerman because he is another “Sandy Hook… waiting to happen” with a “pattern” of “criminal history.”
In his response, Chief Bracknell agreed that Zimmerman was another Sandy Hook, writing “Your reference to Sandy Hook… I agree,” but defended the Lake Mary Police Department’s handling of the situation.
Bracknell also made it clear that he would not cover up for Zimmerman and prefers no involvement with the anything involving the Zimmerman family.
“REST ASSURED, the last thing on planet earth I want is ANY relationship with the Zimmermans. PERIOD,” wrote Bracknell.
Bracknell has since backed away from his written email to Rodriguez, saying he did not agree and was only “referring to the fact that [Zimmerman] seems to be involved in incidents” involving firearms.
