While President Obama focuses all of his political capital on swaying the American people and Congress to drop bombs on Syria, the jobs report issued yesterday indicates that black unemployment is still in free fall. Unlike other demographics, which are seeing small improvements in their unemployment numbers, black unemployment is actually getting worse.
For blacks, the unemployment rate increased almost half a point, leaping from 12.6 to 13.0 percent. Also, as we reported yesterday, homeownership among blacks just hit an historic 18 year low.
In general, the jobs report yesterday was weak, showing an increase of only 169,000 jobs. And as the Washington Post points out, even though the unemployment rate dropped from 7.4 percent to 7.3 percent, the U.S. economy is still in awful shape:
The drop in the unemployment rate was caused by 312,000 people dropping out of the labor force. The number of people actually reporting having a job actually fell by 115,000 in the survey on which the unemployment rate is based.
And from Business Insider:
Even at 169,000 jobs a month, it would take an unbelievable 9 years and 10 months to return to pre-Great Recession employment levels, according to Brookings. See you in 2023 — assuming no recessions between now and then.
Or to put it mathematically, there are a record 90,473, 000 people not in the labor force, and the group being hit the hardest is blacks.
Saddest of all is that instead of focusing on black unemployment and what should be done about it, black pundits, such as those on liberal MSNBC and elsewhere, misuse their platforms by vilifying rodeo clowns who dress up in Obama masks and other nonsense.
